Abstract

Currently, in Brazilian residential lighting systems there are three types of lamp technology used: incandescent, compact fluorescent (LFC or FCL) and LED. As a consequence of the application of electronic circuits in the production of these two latest technologies, these lamps when initialized develop currents and frequencies higher than the nominal due to the electromagnetic transients. These currents can be intensified if one takes into account a joint and simultaneous departure caused by collective switching or power outages.               This paper presents an analysis of the starting currents in unique and mixed groups of technologies, verifying the effects of mutual compensation and establishing predictions for other systems.                                                                                                                            ..
