Abstract

Brazil has been through in recent years for electric energy crises, and in the face of this situation, there is a concern to apply consumer reduction actions based on the government program named PROCEL. In particular it was identified the public lighting as one of the areas to apply energy efficiency actions with the updating of lighting equipment’s in the 15 million of points of public lighting. This study aims to evaluate the complete technologic update of this public lighting park by LED technology considering pilot projects.  In this context is evaluate the reduction of electricity consumption by this most efficient lamp technology, and thus present a scenario with a projection of 10 years to verify how much the technologic update will represent in terms of electric energy and energy demand reduction with some economic considerations and, consequently reduction in the final consumer's energy bill. In addition, this projection can be used to discuss the reduction of CO2 emissions, since the upgrade of the public lighting by LED Technology will bring savings in consumption and energy production.
