Faced with the increase in the use of photovoltaic energy, several challenges arise. One of the challenges is to reduce the losses involved in a photovoltaic (PV) system. The main losses are those caused by total and partial shading, mismatch losses, ohmic loss, and temperature. In this occasion, Power Optimizers for Photovoltaic Systems (POPS) have recently appeared, which aim to increase the efficiency of the PV system. Thus, the present work presents the POPS and performs simulations with PV*SOL software verifying the gain provided under different conditions. As a result, in the best case, optimization performance (Po) reached 10.84% (SolarEdge) in Sete Lagoas-MG and 7.17% (Tigo) in Curitiba-PR. Therefore, POPS can be a solution to increase the efficiency of the system, mainly with the trend in reducing the cost of power electronics.
